Terrible, they don't understand teens at all. I feel pity for middle school me that went to this school, the counselors were terrible and administration was terrible. Teachers tried their best to be kind, though. Gangs, racial slurs, dirtiness, and bullying all haunt this school. I went to this school 2 years ago so it's not even that long ago either.

I had the opportunity to pay 30% more for my house, move 3 blocks over, and have my kids in FISD. I probably should have done that.

This school continues to improve each year! Love the direction it is going if they continue under the same leadership.

Our little school district has been undergoing growing pains for the last 9 years or so. I have 3 students that have started at and/or are currently at Lakeside Middle School. Last year, the district made a great decision to open the Powell 6th grade center to help the new 6th graders adapt to the new rigors of middle school life. My student thrived there! Now when we started at Lakeside in 2014, there were 2 principals before we even got the year started. Yes i was concerned. Academically, my students rose to the challenge and succeeded, but there were numerous behavioral issues that concerned me. 2015 we got a new principal, Mr Miller. He is phenomenal! His wife is principal at Powell... they work together so well. Mr. Miller had brought in new innovative teachers and has turned out school into a fun learning facility vs prison like. We have 1 hour power hour lunches..lunch and "recess"-like time (with teacher supervision). By implementing this, the students have been more focused - grades have improved, test scores are steadily on the rise (something this website is behind on ..so please go to the texas education agency website to view the rising scores) and the behavioral issues are much better.I am very happy with the middle.school and the direction that our current school board is taking our district! It may seem small steps, but thats how big ships change directions. My children are all involved in sports...highly recommend the athletics department. Most teachers are responsive... Mr Miller is always responsive and so are the AP's.Please call the school office and ask to speak to some parents. Im sure there are several that would be happy to speak to you to help you makenthe best decision for your family. The town is growing but still has the small town feel! Its a wonderful place to live and raise a family!
