Terrible year. So many parents disappointed With most of the kindergarten teachers. The principal was just shy of useless and very rude. Protocol concerning health accommodations were not followed for 504 plans . A teacher caught not giving appropriate grades . Teachers sending more yellow and red letters gome to students instead of books for kids to read in kindergarten. Parents questioning what their child has learned the entire year. Parents complaining of their kids getting bullied and not getting phone calls back from the principal.

Overall a pretty good school. Most parents are professionals and very involved. There is a new principal who is the weakest link. She has no leadership skills and her answer to every slightly difficult problem is "there is nothing I can do". She needs to learn she gets big bucks to deal with difficult problems; everyone can send out useless emails. Once she is gone, this school will reach its full potential.

It's important to remember that teachers have a lot more resources to share with parents. Parents should do what they can to help their child, specially when it comes to learning differences, we all need to do our part. I read a comment that says that parents today need to educate their children better weather the kids are 504 or not. One thing that I have been able to see after 17 years in the field of education is that teachers might not follow up all accommodations or might not have a good understanding of what dyslexia or ADHD is. Just know what the term means is not enough. So yes, parents may have a misconception of what teachers should do. Teachers also do sometimes have an unrealistic expectation or misconceptions just as well. Teachers are not gods, they are humans and have the tendency to make mistakes just as well. The comment that was made about parents not doing their job, even if it comes from a parent, one thing that we all need to remember is that teachers are not immune to mistakes. I speak as a parent and educator. We must work together to find solutions instead of blaming one another.

Over my past years at this school, and someone who is at this school 5 days a week, I would say that the teachers, parents and administration do a lot for these students. Someone posted that the teachers treat some children terribly, but I disagree. I think that the teachers treat the children justly. Too many parents in today's society are raising their children without integrity, compassion and respect. I have seen too many children at this school talk back to their teacher, use inappropriate words and have even heard children say, "it doesn't matter, I won't get in trouble" when they do something wrong. I have heard too many parents complain about "how" their child is being treated poorly in the classroom when that same child just threw a chair in the room or yanked the teacher's charts down. It's sad that today's society is teaching these children such lack of responsibility for their own actions. Do you remember when you were in school? Do you remember ever talking back to a teacher or ripping someone off her wall? Not only would you have probably been suspended, but you would have had your bottom whooped with no questions when you got home. By no means am I saying that we need to go back to corporal punishment, but parents, make your child responsible for their actions...504 or not.
