The good thing about East is that no one cares. You're able to wear a lot more stuff (ex: ripped jeans, hats), you can wear earbuds in the hallway, and you can sit anywhere you want on (or off) campus during lunch. The bad thing about East is that no one cares; if you've got a problem, you're not going to get it resolved. Teachers regularly break rules and openly humiliate students, and administration will not do a thing. If you happen to get a good teacher for a class (ex: Ms. Devillier, Mr. Carter, Mr. Hall, Coach Rapp) you're really lucky, but those are hard to come by. The administrative staff is EXTREMELY rude and treats most of the students (and even parents) like animals. Many of my friends have gotten food poisoning from the school cafeteria, so go off campus or bring your food so you don't get sick. Cheating runs rampant, and there are so many students that trying to get in the top 10% if you don't take every class AP/IB is nearly impossible. Very academically driven school (everyone I know is either in dual credit, AP, or IB), so if you're looking for that kind of environment this is the place to be. However, be prepared to have about 3-5 hours of homework (generally busy work that the teachers LOVE to assign) each night if you're planning on taking any advanced classes, and this could easily be more. Getting involved in any extracurriculars is extremely time consuming but generally rewarding. Even if you're involved, there are about 1300 students in each graduating class so you're probably not going to stand out to any colleges, that's just the reality of the situation here. The school may look good and put together on the outside looking in, but there are some serious issues. It's only a matter of time before the entire charade collapses. If you really care about standing out as a student, I'd recommend going to Plano Senior or just skipping the Plano ISD senior high schools altogether, as this is the culture everywhere more or less.

Overall a good school with lots of programs and activities. The IB program is especially nice for those looking to attend programs recognized internationally. With a school so large there are bound to be disparities between the good and the bad but overall this is a great school with excellent opportunities if you keep your priorities in line.

Two of my children attend the IB program here. Its the only school that offers IB. Students can attend this school for all four years if they are in IB. I had reservations about the school initially, but have come to learn not to rely on unfounded rumors. There have been 0 incidents since my kids have attended. Students in regular Plano East are just as nice as students in IB. Unlike some of the other reviews in the past, I have found the principal to be sincere and has been quick to resolve any concerns or questions I have had. My kids are very happy with the social aspects and diversity of culture. The IB program is tough, but the overall advantages outweigh the additional time in homework and projects. The campus is like a mini-college. Its huge, but kids get used to it quickly. They are expanding to include advanced medical buildings. The future is very bright for Plano East. Many IB students get fully paid scholarships. Kids drive from the West Plano to attend this school and have admitted their experience at IB is totally better than their experience at Plano West schools.
