My brother graduated from here with a 3.3 gpa. That actually put him in top 10% of his class. He can barely read, he certainly doesn't comprehend what he reads, his math skills are minimal, his knowledge of history & science are comical. He was in honors math & science!! I feel so badly for him, I don't even know how to tell him to not tell prospective employers about his rank, as I'm afraid they'll expect things of him that he'll be unable to perform. I'm thankful I graduated before we moved to Texas. How could any high school graduate someone with a 5th grade reading level, at the top of their class? How can the teachers even feel good about themselves, sending people out into the world with diplomas, yet they can't even spell it! What a disservice they did to my brother. I realize parents are also responsible, but I'm not his parent. Someone should have stepped in. Perhaps the state will. I wonder about the remaining 90% that had lower averages! That thought is actually scary...

This school is not following normal procedures for evaluating and providing services for students who need special education. I think it's because the students are majority Hispanic. I'm considering filing a complaint with the US Dept of Education Office of Civil Rights or with the Texas Education. They don't follow normal docomentation procedures. They are also ineffective at identifying and assisting students who are especially vulnerable to bullying. They rely on suspensions instead of problem-solving with some of the core issues causing absences or misbehavior. Academic ratings at this school would improve if they addressed these issues. Teachers here need more resources.

This school, while there is great programs in this school, this school in my opinion did not live up to my standards. The admin seem to be as if they care for themselves. for example, for two months the AC was down in two of my classrooms in 2016 right after summer, it is still pretty hot. The admin got multiple complaints even from parents, it wasn't until i got fed up with it for another month when i called central office. Magically the AC was fixed nearly immediately. Another thing is that they WAY overcharge for a laptop repair. I would almost be half tempted to fix the laptop myself if even knew a thing about repairing them. Sure there is a couple of good things about the school, mainly saying that you graduated from a magnet school, however i would have much rather gone to my home school O'Connor any day.
