T.C. Williams High School

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria awarded $504,000 in college scholarships to 181 TCWilliams graduating seniors from the class of 2020. Schools where they are headed include Princeton, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Spelman College, UVA, VA Tech, William and Mary, etc.

The Jay Matthews 2019 Challenge Index ranks T.C. William as the 987th most challenging High School (public or private) in the county, in the top 4.5% nationally.

I am a college student who attended TCW for four years, and I am quite surprised to see the negative comments below. The college prep track, including the Stem academy and health sciences academy, is superior to the local private schools and facilities are new and modern. The quality of the education, rich resources, and fantastic faculty provided me with a solid foundation to be accepted at a national university and to continue my studies.

I attended, substituted and unfortunately at one time, sent my children to this school. I was lucky enough to teach both the STAR program students and the AP students (and those classes in between). The difference in teaching and attitude is amazing. Most of the kids in the STAR program were low income kids, while the children in AP courses were middle /upper middle class children. There is bullying and fights that disrupt the learning process and the bullying keeps those kids, who would otherwise do well in class, not to excel. There is much much work to be done at TC Williams.
