I do not like the way they push these kids nowadays. The classes are too large. Teachers are NOT able to help a child who has fallen behind. We have asked several times for our child to get extra help and it seems like we are always pushed aside. We are looking to move out of this school system.

Test scores speak volumes. For a school that pushes SOL over everything else, you would think the scores would be better.

Hilda J Barbour is the BEST school I could have put my son in. From the teachers to the principal, everyone is top notch!

As far as the County goes this school is the newest elementary school...I had 2 children here, both of which I withdrew to homeschool. Any more children I have will not go to this county's elementary schools. We had issues with the level of education offered (if your child is advanced or behind academically you will have issues), the fact that they push SOL reviews for at least a month before the tests, and issues with the principal. If you are even told that your child got in trouble (I was not informed twice), be sure to investigate...the person who speaks up first tends to not get in as much trouble-even if they were causing the issues. Most of the teachers there are great but even greatness can be over-shadowed by too many kids per class, not enough resources, and a very controlling principal/vice principal. The PTO is great...they are always trying to raise money to purchase new things for the school...they also run some programs just for the family- game night (which is free), craft night, etc. They just need more parents to be involved in this PTO to make it a HUGE success.
