We love OKMS! We recommend it both my son, my husband, and I! It is not very diverse, but that is expected in Hanover County. My son has not experiences anything that makes us not recommend OKMS.

Excellent school. The middle school experience is a hard transition. The staff here does an excellent job

We moved to Hanover County because of the schools' stellar reputation. About 50 percent of the teachers are supportive and truly want the students to succeed. But my personal experience has been they have several teachers that bully the students, and are very prejudice and exercise discrimination against certain students. My child used to enjoy going to school before attending OKMS and now she's fearful of going because of the treatment she's experienced and witnessed her classmates experience from some of her teachers. However, many of the teachers are very supportive and email you when your child is in need of help. But, we've had 3 teachers that have been pure bullies. Minority students especially are singled out and discriminated against on a regular basis.I would recommend any parent to really do their research before sending their child here.

Although Oak Knoll's educational standards are great, the social atmosphere is not. There is a huge clique society and if you aren't a native Hanover resident, don't expect to integrate into these groups easily. After three years it's apparent if you don't wear the same clothing or follow today's trend exactly, you will be ridiculed. The "bully box" is a joke and don't think for a second they don't exist here. I would choose a more rural school or one with somewhat of an economic/financial diversity, as being "poor" in this school is unheard of and you will be pinpointed no matter how hard you try to remain anonymous.
