10 years ago this school had challenges. It is a different place now. Students work hard and have fun. Lots of clubs, sports and a strong alternative to IB for those students not interested in highly competitive high stress educations. They learn well here and have a lot of Advanced Placement for college credit.

Very Positive! It’s a school that’s come from very challenging past and is turning around to become a premier MPS school with the STEAM model and program of study.

I graduated in the late 90's. It was okay then. I taught at BV from 2007-2014. It's a victim of the voucher program and white flight. Wisconsin has abandoned MPS and Milwaukee's poorest people. The city is segregated and it directly robs the schools of any chance at success. The teachers and staff do their best in an impossible situation. The same can be said for the students.

During 2011-2012 Very little discipline, but they had rules that didn't make sense. Bathrooms were rarely available. They were locked during passing time, but my son couldn't always get a hall pass during class. Lock downs were common. Certain experienced teachers really did try hard to make class a learning environment, but new teachers were often the norm and I think they were intimidated by the students. My son said classes were often disruptive and he could go entire days without instruction. He was bullied often. Eventually, we pulled him out to home school him just for his safety.
