About Arts District

Las Vegas’ Arts District is occasionally referred to as 18b because it was originally designated to span 18 city blocks. In recent years, this neighborhood has grown larger in size and in popularity. What was once largely a commercial and industrial zone is slowly transforming into an eclectic residential neighborhood. Filled with galleries and performance venues, the Arts District fosters the cultural soul of Vegas.

Getting Around Arts District

Around Arts District

Condos account for the majority of residential offerings in the Arts District, thanks to the SoHo Lofts and the Newport Lofts. Both buildings are easily the most noticeable in the neighborhood as they tower over everything else. They’re on the north side of the neighborhood, closer to downtown. However, there are a few single-family dwellings spread out among the commercial and yet-to-be developed properties.

Home prices in the Arts District are not as exorbitant as the Strip, but they are about in-line with what’s downtown. Expect to pay a sizable HOA fee on top of the midrange sticker prices of the area’s one- and two-bedroom condos.

The Arts District boasts quite an array of chef-owned restaurants right along with a number of mainstay, family eateries. For great Mexican food, try Casa Don Juan, Dona Maria Tamales, or El Sombrero. All of them are long-time neighborhood stalwarts. Another stalwart would be Chicago Joe’s, serving up traditional Italian food in a casual, home-like setting. The newer places offer more exotic and fusion-inspired menus. Notables are the Mingo Ktichen and Lounge, Cornish Pasty Co., and Tacos Huevos.

Visitors to the Arts District may get a sense of Old Las Vegas while driving through the rows of one-story shops and warehouses. Many of these buildings are now decorated with colorful murals and have been repurposed into thrift stores, antique shops, galleries, salons, and hangouts.

Nightlife in the Arts District is definitely geared to be laid back and for the locals. Try Artifice or Velveteen Rabbit for cocktails, craft beer and amazing live performances (music, poetry slams, theatre and more). The Millennium Fandom Bar seems to be a bit more touristy, but who can’t have fun at a pub that celebrates all things nerdy? Movie-going is taken to the next level at Eclipse Theaters, which offers an upscale bar and menu to go along with that summer blockbuster you’ve been waiting to see. For theatre lovers of the stage variety, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts is a very short drive from the Arts District. The Smith hosts an off-Broadway musical series as well as the Nevada Ballet Theatre and a jazz cabaret.

Sundays in the Arts District are best done at a leisurely pace. Enjoy a coffee and brunch at one of several cafes around Main Street and Colorado Avenue, then head out for some fun shopping at the vintage shops nearby. For serious shoppers, the Las Vegas North Premium Outlets complex is a next-door neighbor to the district.

Major bus lines run through the neighborhood on Charleston Boulevard and Main Street. Along the Arts District’s eastern boundary, another bus line runs down Las Vegas Boulevard. The bus lines are a good option for those traveling to work, especially for those who work to the north or south of the neighborhood. However, most of Vegas is car-centric. Parking is pretty easy in most places and residents will likely tell you they need a car for getting around and grocery shopping.
