Washington is a state located in the Pacific Northwest and named after the first U.S. President George Washington. Washington is the third most densely populated state in the Western U.S. and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, Oregon to the south, Idaho to the east, British Columbia to the north. Washington’s largest cities are Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, and Vancouver, all offering diverse neighborhoods, dynamic cuisine, historic sites, and cultural attractions. The region is divided up into the Coast Range, Puget Sound Basin, Cascade Range, Columbia Plateau, and the Rocky Mountains. With varied terrain, Washington is home to lush evergreen forests, glacier-covered mountains, and sea-level lowlands, which all provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. One of the state’s most popular natural features is the Cascade Mountain Range, with its highest peak being Mount Rainier. Washington is also known for its apple orchards and produces more apples than any other state each year.
