Getting Around Avondale

Around Avondale

Residents have their choice of a variety of different types of real estate throughout Avondale. While there are million dollar waterfront homes, providing stunning views of the Ortega River and the St. Johns River, there are a variety of single-family homes scattered throughout the rest of the area. This includes those that are directly off Park Street, making them perfect for the working business class. A variety of schools are found throughout this area as well, which is ideal for families who want to enjoy the single-family homes located near them.

Quite a few delicious restaurants exist around the Avondale neighborhood. Herschel Street is lined with a variety of bagel shops, Italian restaurants, and simply delicious American food. The food is not pretentious. The majority of cafes and restaurants are independently owned, and they are beloved landmarks for residents. The Ale Pie House, for example, is one of those places where people know they can get good pizza and enjoy the atmosphere for as long as they desire.

Friday nights are best spent within the King Street Food & Beer District. Gastropubs serve up some of the finest and most innovative foods in all of Jacksonville. There are quite a few restaurants that have great beers, and there are actually more than 600 on tap to choose from in the area. Local beers are abundant, allowing you to taste some of the unique flavors brewed in Avondale and throughout north Florida. For those who want to take it easy, there's always something to be said for grabbing a pizza from one of the local pizzerias and eating on a blanket in the park.

Relax while taking in views of the river at one of the many restaurants that serve up pancakes, fried eggs, and all of your other favorite breakfast items. Then take a walk over to one of the parks to play ball or just people-watch. There's always The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, which is one of the largest art museums in North Florida. The Shoppes of Avondale have a wide array of jewelry, children's clothing, home decor, and more. A variety of lunch options exist as well.

It's a very chic urban area of Jacksonville, so you are sure to see a variety of different things. Children will be playing in Boone Park and Fishweir Park, families will be enjoying views of the river while having picnics, and people of all ages will be walking around enjoying the various boutique shops. It's a relatively quiet area since most of the noise happens on the west side of the city. In Avondale, it's peaceful and all of the different age groups get along with everyone.
