Eight homes in Castro Valley will be razed to make way for 27 new townhomes courtesy of Catalyst Development Partners.

Per East Bay Times, the Alameda County Planning Commission voted unanimously to demolish the area across from the Castro Village Shopping Center to make way for new townhomes.

Currently located on the lot are a duplex, seven houses, tennis courts, and swimming pool. All of that will be replaced with a 4,175-square-foot common open space and park area as well as four townhomes. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath townhouses will be separated with sidewalks that lead to an open greenspace. Two of the buildings will run parallel with Jamison Way.

As for parking, each townhome comes with a two-car garage. All of the residences will share a driveway featuring 22 guest spots and eight more resident spots.

Current area residents have raised concerns about increased traffic. New lane markers and speed limit signs have been suggested as ways to offset that.
