According to the Dallas Morning News, the sprawling 275-acre University Hills project owned by Centurion American Development Group will be the first multi-use venture in the I-20 corridor.

Located at I-20 and Lancaster Road just southeast of the University of North Texas (UNT) southern Dallas campus, the development will balance the rapidly growing jobs area with medium-density townhomes, apartments, hotels, retail space, and offices.

"The city lacks sufficient middle-income single-family residential development, and the UNT area is a priority for development," Karl Stundins with the City of Dallas Economic Development Department told the Dallas Morning News. "The Centurion project fits with these two priorities.”

In addition to UNT, nearby corporate neighbors include Amazon, BMW, Hyundai, and Quaker Foods.

The preliminary site plan for University Hills calls for constructing commercial components near I-20 on the development’s south end. On the north end of the heavily wooded tract, townhomes and apartments will be built adjacent to a DART Rail station.

Centurion American is a leading land developer in North Texas. Besides building new suburban neighborhoods and urban mixed-use projects, the company made headlines for its massive $175 million renovations of the historic Statler Hotel in Downtown Dallas.

Centurion is currently in the final approval stages for University Hills. Though City of Dallas planners have already approved the planned development, they are making minor tweaks to the master plan and developers are awaiting zoning for a mixed-use community.
