An assist from City Council is likely bringing a $40 million basketball facility to Miami Gardens, according to Curbed Miami.

The city received permission from City Council to negotiate a lease and development plans with Next Level Basketball (NLB), a Hollywood, Fla., company hoping to build a new sports facility near Hard Rock Stadium. The city currently owns the 4.6-acre lot, located at 2774 NW 183rd St., where NLB is planning a 60,000- to 80,000-square-foot basketball training complex. The estimated development cost is between $30 million and $40 million.

Created in 2014, NLB has trained athletes like former Heat player (and current New York Knicks player) Michael Beasley and Quinn Cook, a current guard for the Golden State Warriors, at its Hollywood location. But in addition to high-achieving athletes, the Miami Gardens facility will cater to everyone, according to NLB co-owner and president Jonathan Ramos.

Plans for the facility, designed by Coral Gables-based architecture firm Behar Font & Partners, include eight indoor basketball courts and 12 retail centers ranging from gyms to sports bars. A 400-space parking garage is also included. Once open, the space aims to host AAU games, USBA games, and in-house tournaments.

“We’re working on bringing something this community has never had,” Ramos told Curbed.
