Balance Gym is a well-known award winner in the D.C. area, being named the best crossfit gym this year by Washington City Paper and runner up for best gym and best trainer in the same competition. One reason could be the insane value for your money with their membership plans. For $94 a month you can get their gym passport membership, which gives you access to all four of their locations as well as free standard classes, use of the pool at Foggy Bottom, and discounts at SomaSpa. Group classes include all of the classics: Zumba, spin, yoga, Pilates, Piloxing, and more.

Vida Fitness - City Vista

Other Neighborhoods: Logan CircleU Street, Navy Yard

The winner of Washington City Paper’s Best of 2018 for best gym is Vida Fitness. This fitness club offers six gym locations as well as pool club locations. For $116 a month, you can gain access to all their gyms, a wide range of their classes, and all the Vida social events. Bump that up to $159 a month and you add in access to the pools, among other perks. Classes include yoga, barre, kickboxing, and step. Vida is part of Urban Adventures Companies, which means some gyms feature an on-site Aura Spa or are connected to a Bang Salon location. Get fit, and get a new ’do while you’re at it.

Mint - Dupont Circle

Other Neighborhoods: Downtown & U Street

Mint has three locations across the District, offering gym facilities, classes, and personal training. For $148, you can get a pass to two Mint locations of your choice and unlimited classes at those locations. Mint offers barre, yoga, TRX, cycling, and more. Some of the nice features of Mint are the little perks that come along with membership. In addition to wifi and towel service, you also get mint water and mint-infused chilled face towels (a nice, on-brand touch) as well as free coffee—a great perk if you head to the gym before work and don’t want to stop at Starbucks on the way.

FIT360DC - Mt. Pleasant

While FIT360DC only has one location in Mount Pleasant, they make up for it with a community feel, and some perks you don’t find everywhere. For $110 you get access to all gym facilities and up to five classes a month. Go a tier up and pay $180 a month to add unlimited classes. One of the nice perks of FIT360DC is their 24-hour access offering. Each member has key-code access to the gym after-hours, if your schedule requires you to get healthy at odd times. Classes include boxing, HIIT, and lifting, as well as outdoor classes like the signature Summer-FIT class.

Ambitious Athletics - Foggy Bottom

Ambitious Athletics in Foggy Bottom might not have traditional classes, but membership focuses around group training, rather than just showing up at the gym and trying to figure it out yourself. Starting at $199, this gym offers plans for the casual athlete (training three times a week) or those looking to dedicate time every day. Another awesome offering is a fully online membership, costing only $49 a month, offering access to a full library of instructional videos, coaches, and a private online community. It’s a great alternative for those who don’t have time to make it to a gym but are sick of the gimmick-y instructional videos you typically find.
