There are so many animals who need forever homes in Las Vegas. Yes, there are pet stores all over, but nothing is better than adopting a pet rather than shopping for one. Whether you’ve just recently moved here, bought property, or you’re already a local who wants to add a new family member, there are many places in Las Vegas where you can adopt a pet. Here are some neighborhood pet adoption shelters and nonprofit organizations to consider when looking to adopt a pet in Las Vegas.

Boulder City

The Boulder City Animal Control is a great spot to consider when looking to add a pet to your family. Pet lovers can visit the shelter in person during its operating hours from Tuesday to Saturday, or go to the Boulder City Adoptable Animals Facebook Page to see pictures of which animals are available for adoption as well as where the adoption shelters are located. The facebook page also serves as a lost and found for missing pets in the Boulder City neighborhood.

Henderson

Henderson residents can go through the Henderson City Animal Care and Control Facility to see which animals are available for adoption. They make it easy for you to find pets too. You can either visit the facility in person or go on their Facebook page where they list all of the adoptable animals. The shelter, which is located on East Galleria Drive, also has a lost and found area, applications to get a pet licensed, and volunteer opportunities.

Downtown

The Animal Foundation is a nonprofit organization in Downtown that’s an excellent resource when looking to adopt a pet. The massive facility takes in all animals in need, no matter how injured or sick they are and treats them with the best service and care possible. The foundation also offers a low-cost wellness clinic, a spay and neuter clinic, microchipping services, and more. The Animal Foundation hosts various activities and events throughout the year including adoption events, happy hours, and other community-related events that bring locals and pet owners together. The foundation also has volunteer opportunities where residents of the neighborhood can help with tasks like walking dogs, brushing cats, organizing donation drives, and assisting with pet adoption events.

Spring Valley

Located off Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road, is the Las Vegas Humane Society in the Spring Valleyneighborhood. Through this organization, locals can apply to foster animals as well as get their pets spayed or neutered at affordable prices. They also offer financial assistance, if needed. For someone not quite ready to adopt a pet, this organization offers a sponsorship program where someone can sponsor a pet for $22 a month to help with medical and food expenses at the shelter. Sponsors have their name posted on the website, if they want it displayed, and receive a photo of the pet they’re sponsoring.

Also in Spring Valley is the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Not only can locals adopt dogs and cats from the SPCA, but there are also other animals too like goats, pigs, rats, chickens, and fish. According to their website, all animals are already spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations, so anyone who finds an animal they like won’t have to worry about any of those expenses.

North Las Vegas

A Home 4 Spot is a nonprofit organization that takes in stray, neglected, and abandoned dogs, rehabilitates them, and then finds them new homes. Residents can search the website to find a dog, or attend one of its adoption events at the Petsmart store on North Rainbow Boulevard in North Las Vegas.A Home 4 Spot also has a thrift store in Spring Valley where the proceeds support the organization.
