A $52 million lottery winner is planning to use some of his fortune to revive Fort Lauderdale’s Sistrunk Boulevard, per the Sun-Sentinel

Miguel Pilgram, who hit the lottery in 2010, said he wants to breathe new life into the area, which historically was home to civil rights leaders and pioneers and attracted people due to its nightlife and music. Pilgrim lives in Coral Springs but said he was raised in an area in Memphis, Tennessee that was similar to Sistrunk Boulevard.

On one side of the street, he is planning a New York Subs and Wings restaurant with a Memphis Blues club upstairs. The restaurant and blues club — a renovation of the original 1940s building — will be open in about a year, if all goes according to Pilgram’s plan. He purchased the property in May.

On the other side of the street, he’s planning a retail complex with a bank, Jamba Juice, and other shops on the ground floor. On the second floor, he wants to bring a performing arts center that will offer reduced rates for instructors of dance, arts, and music. Pilgrim hopes those plans will materialize in spring 2019.

According to the city, Sistrunk Boulevard hasn’t had a nightclub with live music in at least 25 years. Back then, the property Pilgram bought at the southeast corner of Northwest 15th Avenue and Sistrunk was home to the Night Owl lounge.
