6 Spots for Your Chicago Galentine's Day Celebration
Galentine’s Day was first introduced by Leslie Knope of the TV comedy “Parks and Recreation.” By now, Feb. 13 is widely recognized as a day for women to celebrate their relationships with one another. It may be difficult to match Leslie’s gift and compliment-giving prowess, but that shouldn’t stop you from putting your own twist on Galentine’s Day. Check out these Chicago options for the festivities — even the apathetic April couldn’t deny the joy of celebrating “ovaries before brovaries.”
Galentine’s Day Market at Emporium - Logan Square

Get into the true spirit of Galentine’s Day by supporting more than 20 local businesses owned by women. The Chicago Period Project and Mickey Alice Kwapis are hosting the Galentine’s Day Market at Emporium in Logan Square. The event, running Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a box of pads or tampons to donate. The donations go to women in need. Grab your girlfriends, drink up at the bar, play arcade games, and make heartfelt toasts in one another’s honor — all for a great cause.
Galentine’s Day Celebration at First Ascent - Avondale

First Ascent Avondale is an indoor climbing gym. If you and your gal pals are seasoned climbers or you’re just looking to try something new, this Galentine’s Day event is right up your alley. The Galentine’s Day Celebration will feature breakfast food (a Leslie Knope favorite), cookie decorating, pictures, and, of course, climbing. This event is scheduled for the evening of the 14th, but there is nothing stopping your squad from doing Galentine’s Day on Valentine’s Day.
Galentine’s Day at FieldHouse Jones - Near North Side

FieldHouse Jones, a different type of Chicago hotel with loft-style rooms and shared apartments, is throwing a Galentine’s Day shindig Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held at the hotel’s DropShot Coffee & Snack Bar. A $35 ticket will get you in the door. Once you’re there, you’ll have your pick of fun activities. Sip on Champagne while a DJ plays. Check out the classic female-centric movies playing in the background. Plus, there will be crafting, French braiding, and nail art. The coffee shop and snack bar will also have tasty treats available.
Paint and Drink at Pinot’s Palette - Logan Square

Going to an organized Galentine’s Day event certainly has its appeal, but you and your female friends can also pick your own spot for your personal celebrations. One such spot that could fit the bill: Pinot’s Palette. Sip on wine and flex your creative muscles at this painting space. The Logan Square location has a Galentine’s Day event scheduled for the 13th. You and your girlfriends can paint Paradise Cove while the full-service bar whips up cosmopolitans and more. This event is $25 per painter. Nothing is on the calendar for the 13th at the West Loop Pinot’s Palette location, but they do host private events. Think about booking a private party for you and your gals.
Learn to Cook at the Chopping Block - Lincoln Square

Sipping drinks while learning how to make something delicious (without the cleanup) could be your perfect Galentine’s Day. The Chopping Block offers up cooking lessons in a variety of different cuisines. On Feb. 13, the Lincoln Square location has two classes: one on Cajun food and the other on gnocchi. The Merchandise Mart location has a Spanish Tapas class, knife skills class, and a pasta workshop on tap for the same day. Bon appétit!
Brunch at WHISK - Ukrainian

There is no rule dictating that Galentine’s Day must be celebrated in the evening. Start the day early with brunch at WHISK in Ukrainian Village. Sate your sweet tooth with Reese’s pancakes, or go more savory with steak and eggs. Whichever dish you order, you can be sure it will look great for your #Galentine’sDay Instagram post. WHISK is even more appropriate because of its “Parks and Rec” ties. Once you are seated, ask for the Ron Swanson Takeover Menu. As you might have suspected, this menu has a dish literally called “All Bacon and Eggs.” Everything else is appropriately made for those with a carnivorous appetite. If brunch isn’t in the cards, WHISK starts serving up its dinner menu after 5 p.m.
