The rate of development in formerly sleepy Allen continues to advance at a rapid pace. According to a recent story in the Dallas Morning News, a 78-acre mixed-use development is in the works for Allen. The development, called Stacy Green, will be located at the high-profile corner of U.S. Highway 75 and Stacy Road.

The City Council is expected to vote soon on the project, which has been planned for over a year. Landowners have been working with developers on the plans, including Dallas-based Provident Realty Advisors. The project will include a half-million square feet of office space, apartments, and retail.

Stacy Green will also include elements to give it a community feel, including a theater, hotel, and a 13-acre greenbelt and park at Cottonwood Creek. The project gets its name in part because the plot of land is one of the last remaining pieces of the old Stacy family farm.

This part of Collin County has become the site of many developments in recent years. The development will be located directly across the street from the Allen Premium Outlets. Two shopping centers are on the east side of U.S. Highway 75 and Stacy Road, the Village at Fairview and the Village at Allen.

"This is one of the last large development sites along U.S. Highway 75," said Dan Bowman, executive director of the Allen Economic Development Corp, in the Dallas Morning News. "It's important to pay a lot of attention to what happens there."

The city also recently worked with developers on a convention center and hotel complex at U.S. 75 and Bethany Road.
