A proposed high-rise catering to those ages 55 and older in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood is one step closer to becoming a reality. Although the development still requires city approval, DNAInfo reports the project got the OK from Ald. Harry Osterman, who called it a "solid development plan."

The 18-story Overture Edgewater, from developer Greystar and architect Pappageorge Haymes, is slated to have 174 rental apartments for those age 55 and older, 18 of which would be affordable housing. Apartments would range from 800 to 1,285 square feet and include one- and two-bedroom units. There would also be a three-level parking garage with 204 spaces.

The building also plans to have amenities including an outdoor area with a pool, a barbecue area, space for dogs, a possible putting green, a salon and spa, a fitness areas, classes, concierge service, happy hours, continental breakfast, legal services, and more.

Another tower planned for the site in 2007, the Bluewater Project, didn't survive the recession. Subsequently, Greystar pitched several ideas for the site, ultimately announcing it would be an active adult community in 2015.
