Representatives from Amazon came to the Finkl Steel site to take pictures, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The Lincoln Yards development being built on the former Finkl Steel site is one of the 10 sites included in Illinois and Chicago’s official bid for the Amazon headquarters.

This is the first time anyone from Amazon has been sighted in Chicago scoping out one of the officially promoted sites, according to the report. Developer Sterling Bay is leading the Lincoln Yards development.

Chicago is competing with several other North American cities for the Amazon headquarters, but the city hopes its sites and the billions in tax credits and incentives it’s offering the e-commerce company will be a persuasive argument. The competition is fierce: New Jersey is offering Amazon a $7 billion incentive package.

Amazon’s presence in Chicago could simply be a part of the company’s vetting process, or it could mean Chicago could be high on the list of contenders.
