It’s been a busy week for Amazon when it comes to brick-and-mortar stores. In news that has been slightly overshadowed by their purchase of Whole Foods, the retail giant is also opening their first bookstore in the Bay Area. The company announced they will open a new store in Walnut Creek complete with a sit-down cafe.

Per Eater SF, the store will open at 1259 Broadway Plaza and will encompass 6,489 square feet, with 4,572 square feet dedicated to the retail space and cafe. Plans call for remodeling the current facade for a more contemporary look. Currently the Amazon stores in New York, Seattle, Portland, and Chicago have more traditional exteriors.

Customers can expect to have the option of purchasing books determined most popular by customer ratings and sales on Amazon, as well as on independent sites like Goodreads. Amazon devices, like the once-coveted tablet, will also be available to try.

Details on the cafe are still unknown, including whether or not it will be “entity operated” by Amazon or an outside barista aficionado like Starbucks or Peet's Coffee. Our guess is that they’ll rely on the professionals there.

This not-so-indie bookstore is expected to open in August and construction is already underway.
