A long time coming, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has announced that the Warm Springs Extension will officially open Saturday, March 25.

The 5.4-mile extension, which broke ground in 2009, finally connects the existing Fremont Station to the new Warm Springs/South Fremont Station. The new station also brings 2,082 parking spaces with it, including 42 electric car charging stations and connections to A/C Transit and VTA buses.

BART is expecting 6,000 new weekday trips thanks to the new station. The bigger picture involving Warm Springs is that this will be BART’s first station connecting direct service from San Francisco and Oakland to San Jose and Santa Clara.

The station boasts various art displays, including Tile Benches by Joe Kievitt and Sky Cycles by Catherine Widgery.
