Amazon recently launched a nationwide search for a spot on which to build a second headquarters. The company’s ideal location is a metropolitan region with plenty of options for public transportation, an international airport, and good universities from which to draw technical talent. That description does sound a lot like the Bay Area.

According to the SF Chronicle, San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland plan to make bids.

The Bay Area is already a hub for dozens of tech corporations and a haven for startups. San Jose, for example, is home to corporations like Adobe and Cisco as well as a soon-to-be Google transit village in Downtown San Jose

However, a project of this magnitude could also worsen the Bay Area’s already competitive real estate climate, to say nothing of the influx of commuters to an already crowded system.

Not surprisingly, there is a lot of frenzy surrounding Amazon’s search, as CEO Jeff Bezos wants the second headquarters to be a “full equal” to the existing Seattle home base. In addition to Bay Area cities, places such as Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, and Vancouver are also submitting bids. The company plans to continue accepting proposals until Oct. 19.
