Getting tired of doing the same old workout day after day? Switching up your exercise routine can energize you, increase your metabolism, and motivate you to stay committed to a healthy lifestyle.

San Francisco is an idiosyncratic city, and there is no shortage of quirky (but hopefully effective) workout classes you can take. Neighborhoods.com has done some digging and rounded up some of the most unusual workouts you’ll find in the City by the Bay.

Morning Gloryville

This idea first started in London, but since then, Morning Gloryville has earned itself many fans in San Francisco. It’s a morning rave that starts at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m., letting you burn off calories while dancing around to heart-pumping, energizing, inspirational music. After all, the best kind of exercise is the type that doesn’t feel like exercise at all, right?

Afterward, enjoy Morning Gloryville’s free massages, organic coffee and smoothie bars, and yoga sessions. These sober raves have brought “conscious clubbing” to the forefront of pop culture around the world, and you can stop by the next time they’re in San Francisco.

Ganja Yoga

Yoga is supposed to relax you while also giving your body a great workout. So it only makes sense that yoga should be paired with marijuana — especially after California recently declared it legal in the state. At Ganja Yoga, people can enjoy a relaxing yoga workout enhanced with cannabis for maximum relaxation, pain relief, and mindfulness.

Ganja Yoga places a strong emphasis on cultivating inner peace while preventing injuries to the body, so it’s perfect for marijuana users who want to be introduced to the calming benefits of yoga.

OnBoardSUP Yoga

Since San Francisco is located right by the Pacific Ocean, many residents are avid surfers, jet-skiers, and kayakers. Basically, San Franciscans love being on the water. OnBoardSUP Yoga combines residents’ love of the ocean with their love of yoga. It’s a traditional yoga class, with one big caveat — the classes are taught on water, with participants balancing on paddle boards for the duration of the workout. The paddle board serves as your mat, bringing a whole new level of challenge to holding those poses.

Antigravity Cocooning

Available at several Crunch gyms in San Francisco, a class called Antigravity Cocooning is something you’ve probably never tried before. Participants swaddle themselves in hammocks hung from the ceiling, while instructors guide them through meditation. The goal of the class is to enhance physical and mental performance, improve alertness, and increase focus, leaving members relaxed and energized.

Circus Center

Ever wanted to run away and join the circus? You can do it, if only temporarily, at Circus Center in San Francisco’s Inner Sunset neighborhood.

The circus training center has classes for all different levels, from beginner to professional, designed to help you master the flying trapeze. You’ll start learning the fundamentals and safety precautions from the ground, of course, and eventually you’ll be taking your first leaps and swings up in the air. Don’t worry, there’s always a safety net to catch you — just in case!

Deep House Yoga

Not a fan of the calm, meditative music that frequently plays during yoga classes? Need music that revs you up as you move through the workout? Deep House Yoga is a class designed for yogis of all levels that pairs Power Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga with Deep House music played by a live DJ. According to the instructors, grooving out to hypnotic beats helps some people get into the flow of yoga more effectively. If you just can’t seem to master that downward-facing dog, maybe some house beats can help you get there.

The practice actually travels all over the Bay Area (and elsewhere). Look for classes in Mission District, Balboa Terrace, Berkeley, and elsewhere.
