Thanks to its warm temperatures, plentiful outdoor venues, and unparalleled grilled-meat selection, Austin’s a perfect city for summertime holidays. Father’s Day is certainly no exception, and if your dad’s in town this year, you’ll have plenty of great activities to choose from. We’re bringing you a few of our favorites right here.

Is dad an outdoorsy type with a penchant for craft beers? In that case, the Bikes & Beer Bash at the beloved Northeast Austin brewery Friends & Allies may be just the thing for him. Bright and early at 7 a.m., you and your dad can head to Friends & Allies to sign in and enjoy some pre-ride coffee and donuts. Soon after, you’ll hop on your bikes and start a non-competitive 40-mile ride through Austin, ending back at the brewery for a crisp draft beer and snacks to replenish all those calories you burned during the ride.

Father’s Day isn’t a big “brunch” holiday, but there are plenty of dads who love a juicy burger and a frosty beer early in the afternoon. At Boiler Nine Bar and Grill in Downtown Austin, they’re offering a daytime special for the occasion: a fire-grilled Black Angus burger (topped with American cheese, red onion jam, and a special sauce) and a draft beer for only $15. Dads can also get as many $1 Pearl beers as they like, making this an excellent destination for some Father’s Day grub and brews.

Another downtown option for Father’s Day is at Upstairs at Caroline. Who says that Father’s Day should be restricted to guys with human kids? If you’re a proud dog dad, you can get in on the fun at this casual, urban bar and eatery in Downtown Austin. On June 17, they’re throwing a Dog Father’s Day Party complete with “manmosas,” Bloody Marys, and dog-friendly frozen yogurt treats for your four-legged babies.

Southwest Austin

At their Slaughter Lane location in Southwest Austin, the hometown heroes of Alamo Drafthouse have a one-day-only screening lined up, aimed at dads who enjoy classic Western films. They’ll be showing the 1969 classic “True Grit” starring John Wayne and featuring one of the most famous father-daughter relationships in cinema history. “True Grit” is playing at 1:15pm on Father’s Day, and because it’s at Alamo, you and Dad will be able to order draft beers, craft cocktails, and snacks like fried pickles with buttermilk ranch and loaded fries with queso and bacon right to your seats.

If your dad loves to toss back some brews and Cracker Jacks at a baseball game, then go see the Round Rock Express play the Fresno Grizzlies in Round Rock. The Round Rock Express, Central Texas’ Minor League affiliate team to the Houston Astros, have a home game scheduled for 1:05pm on Father’s Day. Dell Diamond, the team’s stadium, features plenty of food and drink options, like a grilled cheese hot dog at Coop and Kennel Pub, upscale burgers at 34 Chophouse, and an array of craft and domestic beers.
