Of the many light rail connections Los Angeles has been waiting for, the connection to Los Angeles International Airport has to be at the top of the list. That connection moved a step closer with the release of new renderings for the proposed 96th Street Transit Station in Crenshaw.

Rendering via LA Metro

Built along Aviation Boulevard at 96th Street, the station will let Green Line and Crenshaw/LAX line passengers and other commuters to connect to a people mover that will transport them to and from LAX terminals. Included in the station plans are pick-up areas, a bus plaza, bike hub, and light rail platforms.

The Crenshaw/LAX line is currently under construction and expected to be ready by 2019. The 96th Street Transit Station should break ground either in 2018 or 2019 and be ready no later than 2023. The goal is to have the station ready by then in case LA gets the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The $600 million project now goes to a Metro’s construction committee meeting where it’ll receive more feedback.
