Home prices increased all over the country in the month of June, per the Chicago Tribune. According to a National Association of Realtors report released in late August, some cities saw a huge leap — prices soared 13.4 percent higher compared to last year in Seattle — others, like Chicago, saw more modest growth. Chicago’s home prices inched up 3.2 percent in June.

Prices are going up as the supply of homes on the market decreases. The National Association of Realtors said 1.92 million homes are listed for sale, a nine percent dip compared to last year, according to the report.

With prices rising and likely to continue doing so, buyers are falling back on low mortgage rates to help shoulder the cost.

“Given current economic conditions and the tight housing market, an immediate reversal in home price trends appears unlikely," said David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices, according to the report.
