Chicago's Devon Avenue Improvements Enter Final Stages
Lovers of Indian food have surely visited Chicago’s Devon Avenue in West Ridge, a bustling street that’s home to the city’s “Little India.” The thoroughfare is set to get even better when a $15 million streetscape project, which is well underway, is complete.
The project includes adding wide sidewalks with ramps, new curbs and gutters, improved lighting, benches, bike racks, garbage cans, planters, more crosswalks, and landscaping. One of the biggest changes Devon-goers can expect to see are the addition of mandala-esque designs bearing the street name painted at intersections. Colorful, decorative gateways next to new benches will appear toward the end of the project.
The endeavor is in its final two stages, with work expected to be complete by summer 2018.
