It’s been awhile since we’ve seen any movement from the Fashion District’s massive City Market redevelopment project but it looks like plans are surging forward. According to Urbanize, LA-based architecture company HansonLA has released updated renderings for the project. The new details come just in time for the revamping project’s upcoming date with the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, scheduled this week.

Investment service Lena Group has been spearheading the mixed-use project, which will reimagine 10 acres of Downtown Los Angeles with several new high-rise buildings, including up to 948 residential dwellings (with some affordable housing units), 210 hotel guest rooms, 225,000 square feet dedicated to commercial space, and 300,000 square feet for a new housing and educational campus. The new structures will rise between three stories to upwards of 38 stories. Planners hope the former produce center’s new commercial center will include a variety of eateries, boutique shops, and even a 744-seat multiplex theater.

Per Curbed, the updated renderings illustrate a collection of futuristic-looking offset glass towers as well as some mid-rise buildings. The architecture looks to maximize the building’s exposure to the sun without being too ostentatious for the area. A master plan of the redevelopment site also shows a number of walking paths located on several levels of the new City Market, which are mostly placed around the center’s famed courtyard.

Though there isn’t a clear timeline for the massive revamp, previous details indicate the project will be separated into phases throughout a 20-year period. The developers have already repurposed part of the development known as City Market South, which includes a mix of retail and office space, earlier this year.
