Construction of Google’s planned transit village in Downtown San Jose is slated to begin in eight years, once construction is completed on the BART and high-speed rail connections to nearby Diridon Station, per the Mercury News.

The planned timeframe is the first public indication of how long it will take for the tech giant’s transit village to begin taking shape. Once complete, it would house 20,000 Google employees and transform the core of San Jose. Major construction on the development will occur between 2025 and 2027, according to a city memo.

San Jose officials plan to involve interested community groups in the early stage discussions. These public meetings were scheduled to begin Oct. 20, but they have since been pushed back to just before Christmas.

Meanwhile, Google’s development partner Trammell Crow is continuing to collect properties in the neighborhood. The buying spree has already spurred a jump in real estate prices.
