Residents will begin to see some new and improved alleyways across the district. According to a Curbed D.C. report, the city is repairing alleys across all eight wards as part of the bi-annual Alleypalooza program.

The program, which was officially launched in 2015, promises to reconstruct 64 alleys over the course of just 12 weeks. This program is part of Mayor Muriel Bowser’s larger initiative to improve local infrastructure, roads, alleys, and sidewalks, according to a press release from the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). This year’s Alleypalooza is expected to complete all repairs by January 2018.

In a recent Petworth News article, Advisory Neighborhood Commision 4C07 Commissioner Karen Cooper praised the program, saying, “My alley was done this summer and it’s made a big difference in our community, as far as using the alley and making it feel safer.”

Residents are invited to notify the DDOT about alleys that need repair by calling the Mayor’s Call Center, using the DC311 mobile app, or completing an online service request
