Developer Announced for Apartment and Condo Building at Former Cabrini-Green Site
Brinshore-Michaels development team has been appointed as the developer for the Chicago Housing Association’s (CHA) land in the former Cabrini-Green housing projects. The Board of Commissioners announced July 20 that the company would help develop a mixed-income site at Oak Street and Larrabee Street that will feature 86 apartments and 18 condos.
“Since 2001, Brinshore-Michaels has developed more than 1,500 mixed-income rental units in Chicago as part of CHA’s public housing revitalization, and we are happy to continue to work with them on one of the agency’s most important projects,” CHA CEO Eugene Jones Jr. told DNAInfo.
Brinshore-Michaels recently worked on the 1200 Clybourn building as a part of the Cabrini-Green redevelopment, a mixed-income building with 17,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and 84 units, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments.
Having just secured the loan for the project, Brinshore-Michaels has yet to release information on design partners or plans.
Earlier this year, the Chicago Housing Authority announced its partnership with Texas-based Hunt Development to lead a phase of construction at the Cabrini-Green site that includes about 500 new units of mixed-income housing, 1.2 acres of park space, and 32,900 square feet of retail space.
The big project will be spread over a nearly seven-acre site at the corners of Larrabee Street and Clybourn Avenue. It is slated to feature a 21-story residential tower as well as mid-rise buildings and townhomes.
