A few years back, developer CIM bought up a whole bunch of property in Santa Monica with a whole lot of potential. Last year CIM broke ground on a five-story mixed-user on the site of the old Buerge Ford dealership, and now we know what they’ll do with across the street.

An initial study for their plans has just been released and shows plans for another five-story, mixed-use project on Santa Monica Boulevard between Stoner and Granville avenues. The development is set to include 154 residential units, 6,000 square feet for restaurants, 9,000 square feet of retail, and a bunch of live/work units with street frontage. Two levels of underground parking with additional parking on the ground level are included.

Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects is designing the complex, just like they did with the project across the street. For locals who wondered if strip malls and outdated retail stores would line Santa Monica Boulevard forever, the project is something of a welcome change, even if it seems to be ushering in an era of like-minded developments as well.
