Real estate agency The Charles Company recently filed documents with the City of West Hollywood regarding a 1.3-acre site located at 9034 Sunset Blvd. on the Sunset Strip. According to the proposal, the company wants to construct a 19-level hotel structure complete with a helicopter landing pad and an art gallery. Culver City-based firm R&A Architects + Design, Inc. has been tapped to design the project.

Per Curbed LA, renderings for the hotel tower have already been released and they look pretty darn cool. Resembling a stack of plates, the proposed development will rise 19 stories with offset, ambiguously-shaped floor foundations. The future complex will consist of approximately 185 guest rooms, 17,000 square feet of event space, 7,500 square feet of restaurant space, 5,700 square feet for retail, 915 square feet dedicated to an art gallery, and 14 apartment units. The structure would also include four subterranean levels of parking, which would offer 550 parking spots.

Many aspects of the proposal still need addressing, reports Wehoville. First, the proposed hotel has been referred to as “Sunset Tower”, which is already named after a nearby hotel at 8358 Sunset. Second, there are issues concerning the size of the tower, which currently exceeds the city’s zoning regulations.

However, even if these issues are addressed, the project would still spark a debate about developments in the area, which has seen a sharp increase in hotels over the past few years.
