The project will largely focus on rebuilding the station. The Green Line stop will be getting new stairs, escalators, bike racks, and bus drop-off and pick-up areas, according to the report.

The CTA granted Walsh Construction a $25.9 million contract to lead the project. Installation artist Theaster Gates and the University of Chicago have been engaged to work on the interior of the station, according to the report. Part of the project’s funding is coming from a $25 million federal grant.

This Green Line stop is the oldest station in Chicago, according to the report.

“The upgrades being made to this iconic station will boost the development that’s already taking place throughout the area and provide sustainable, good-paying jobs to the local community,” CTA President Dorval R. Carter said in a statement, DNAinfo reports
