Sacramento County’s median resale home price was up 10 percent in October compared to last year, according to a Sacramento Bee report.

The median price for detached single-family resale homes in Sacramento County was $339,000 in October. That’s nearly double the median price in late 2011, which was $155,000. However, the price is still lower than it was during the peak of the housing bubble in 2005 when it was $374,000.

The report also notes an increase in home sales worth more than $500,000. The number of new and resale homes selling for more than half a million dollars increased by 50 percent in October year over year.

The increasing real estate prices in Sacramento are in part a reflection of the exodus of Bay Area residents seeking more affordable housing outside the region. Sacramento offers lower housing costs than major job hubs like San Francisco, Palo Alto, Cupertino, and San Jose.
