Plans are moving forward to build a biotech and housing development in the Bayfront in South San Francisco. The San Mateo County Harbor District Board of Commissioners voted to give the green light to a proposed project near Oyster Point Marina and Park.

The San Mateo Daily Journal reports that developers expect to break ground sometime in the fall. The decision allows developers to move ahead with exploring infrastructure improvements tied to the 3-million-square-foot project.

The mixed-use development will include housing, businesses, and hotels spread across 81 acres in front of the water. The housing portion of the development will include 1,191 for-rent and for-sale residences, ranging from studios to three-bedroom homes.

Developers are also dedicating 1.5 million square feet of the development to building research and development space for biotechnology companies. South San Francisco officials are still weighing the various hotel design proposals, which could offer as many as 350 rooms.
