The master-planned community Bridgeland has grown steadily in recent years, with new neighborhoods opening in just the past few months. According to the Houston Chronicle, sales in the community increased by 27 percent since last year. And the fact Bridgeland didn’t flood during Hurricane Harvey certainly helped. Covering over 11,400 acres of western Cypress, Bridgeland’s growth has forced the large community to expand even more.

All signs point to the building boom continuing as the community enters its 12th year with plans to add new neighborhoods and homes while increasing amenities for its residents.

New Outdoor Amenities and Homes

Years ago, Bridgeland only had one community swimming pool. Since then, the community added a lap pool, recreation areas, and a dog park. Also, Bridgeland recently opened Josey Lake, an ambitious 140-acre waterway that offers kayaking, a boardwalk, a playground zip line, and a “birding tower with skyway bridge.”

As a part of the community’s newest neighborhood Parkland Village—which currently has 20 model homes available to tour—the community will be getting a fitness center, a lazy river, and additional dog parks.

All these new outdoor amenities just add to Bridgeland’s natural appeal. There are numerous smaller lakes and riverways in the area, giving residents plenty of lakeside views. Lovers of the outdoors also have Oak Meadow Park in the north, and the adjacent BlackHorse Golf Club provides residents with a place to to hit the links.

According to the Houston Chronicle report, other amenities in the works include a town center in the next three to five years, and office spaces in the next decade. Already 200 homes have sold in Parkland Village with Neighborhoods Prairieland Village and Creekland Village next for development. The Howard Hughes Corp. also recently announced groundbreaking on Bridgeland’s first multi-family community, giving buyers even more options. Homes in the community range from $240,000 to over $1 million.

Part of a Larger Trend

Bridgeland’s growth is part of a larger trend among Houston homebuyers looking toward the suburbs. The Houston Chronicle cited a 2017 report from WalletHub indicating that Houston’s suburbs were among the fastest growing parts of the state since homebuyers are generally looking outside the city for homes. Beyond its numerous amenities, Bridgeland is also attractive due to its location and schools.

Although Bridgeland is located on the edges of Harris County, it’s still within 30 minutes of the city. Residents can get to the Greater Heights area relatively quickly by traveling along Highway 290. It’s also possible to get to nearby Katy within 20 minutes to visit the popular Katy Mills Mall. Plus, when residents want something to do, they can visit the Cypress Towne Center, which is filled with shops, restaurants, movie theaters, and gyms. Just because Cypress is on the edge of the county doesn’t mean its residents lack access to modern conveniences.

The community also has several schools on-site. Bridgeland High School and Wells Elementary School, in the Cy-Fair Independent School District, both opened this year, and the community will get a middle school in the next few years, according to the Chronicle report.
