Jerry Garcia's Stinson Beach House Asking $4.35M
Stinson Beach in Marin County is a popular getaway spot for Bay Area residents and tourists alike. Those who wish they could spend a bit more time in this foggy coastal town might want to consider a home that once belonged to Grateful Dead frontman and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jerry Garcia.
Originally listed for $4.6 million last year, the 2,750-square-foot, four-bedroom residence is now asking $4.35M.
Officially known as Sans Souci (“without worry”), this hillside home was Garcia’s personal getaway for most of the 1970s. Things have changed since then, when it wasn’t uncommon to find farm animals and rock stars roaming the grounds. These days the home has gone a bit more upscale by including a heated black-bottom pool and spa, outdoor stone fireplace, and viewing deck. Inside, you’ll be greeted by vaulted ceilings, reclaimed wood walls, and a modernized kitchen.
If you’re looking for a way to connect with the iconic former owner, you’ll want to spend some time in the guest cottage located at the highest point on the property. It used to be Jerry’s own music studio, and his handcrafted door still remains.
Garcia bought the property for $20,000 in 1971 (roughly $118,000 today) and it last sold in 2013 for $3.6 million.
