LA Metro Introduces New Transit Superhero to Fight Bad Manners
The Metro has ushered in a new superhero meant to teach transit riders in Los Angeles how to properly ride the subway. Super Kind is a singing Japanese pop star with the ability to save others from her furry pink nemesis Rude Dude, the city’s public transit supervillain. The bright-colored images and videos are part of the public transit company’s recent etiquette campaign to show transit riders appropriate manners for taking the train or bus.
Aimed to attract millennials, the vivid public service announcement can only be seen on the subway in print form. However, these images are attached to a series of hilariously bizarre videos showing instances of bad manners on the Metro that include eating, seat hogging, and taking up aisle space. Luckily, Super Kind comes to the rescue by transforming into her pastel-colored costume, breaking into song, and blasting Rude Dude’s inconsiderate behavior off the bus or train.
The entertaining clips are the brainchild of video artist Mike Diva, who specializes in creating eye-catching videos on YouTube. The Metro approached Diva with the transit superhero already in mind but needed his aesthetic talents to make the campaign pop. According to CityLab, feedback for the PSA ranges from love to bewilderment.
The Los Angeles transit giant is in the middle of several major projects including the extension of its Purple Line, Crenshaw/LAX Line, and Gold Line to Montclair.
