Developers KDC and Columbus Realty, part of the team behind the $3 billion Legacy West development in Plano, are also joining forces on a new mixed-used project in McKinney according to the Dallas Morning News

The development, which is appropriately called Southgate, lives up to its name. Located at the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 75 and State Highway 121, the project is truly the southern gateway to McKinney.

The 60-acre development has been on the City of McKinney’s drawing board for more than a decade. Though it will eventually contain residences, office space, retail, and restaurants, it already includes a Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center, a Collin College campus, and an office and industrial facility for Emerson Process Management.

KDC is marketing office space, and ATR/Corinth is focusing on retail and restaurant tenants.

"The Southgate project is a strategic urban [model] that marks the southern entryway to McKinney with a range of employment and lifestyle amenities that will be attractive to the entire community," Barry Hand, Principal with Gensler, the architect for the development, said in a statement. "The project is organized around open, green spaces comprised of water features, lawns for events, and native landscape inspired by the prairie heritage of North Texas."

As owners of Southgate’s development side, the City of McKinney selected the team of developers early this year to complete the project. The city hopes to make the development a destination and employment center.
