In January, Liberty Mutual will begin moving 2,700 employees into its new Legacy West campus, which includes 1,700 workers from Richardson and Irving offices and 1,000 new hires. Company officials expect an eventual workforce of up to 5,000 in the two 19-story towers.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the 1 million-square-foot campus will house departments across Liberty Mutual’s personal, commercial, surety, and specialty lines of business. The open workspace will include claims, customer service, underwriting and sales, and a call center large enough for 1,000 employees.

In addition to conference space for company meetings, the buildings contain two rooftop gardens, an on-site medical center, and an employee food court.

“What we looked to do here was to have a place where people can actually have a career,” David Long, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group CEO, said at the campus grand opening. “Lots of places to get promotions. Lots of places to move around. So we really wanted to have a facility that was a lot larger than the collection of smaller offices we had.”

Long added that the new Plano campus will mirror the model of the company’s other large employment hubs in Seattle and Boston.

Liberty Mutual is in good company at Legacy West. Its corporate neighbors are Toyota North American headquarters, JPMorgan Chase, Boeing, and FedEx as well as an urban mix of hotels, restaurants, shops, and residential high rises.

Even before the first wave of Liberty Mutual employees roll up their sleeves and move into the Plano campus, the company is already contributing to the neighborhood by donating $1 million to construct a specially designed playground at Windhaven Meadows Park that will accommodate children of all abilities.

“We will be good neighbors,” Long said.
