Limoneira Co., an independent lemon grower, is bringing a new master-planned community to its hometown of Santa Paula in Ventura County.

Harvest at Limoneira, which broke ground in November, will feature 1,500 new homes and apartments. According to the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, the lemon grower has long owned the 500-acre property and after a lengthy planning period will be putting it to use.

Along with the homes and apartments, Harvest at Limoneira will also bring a new school, fire station, 100 assisted living units, a sports park, amphitheater, agricultural preserve, and hiking trails to the area.

While there isn’t an exact number of for-sale homes spelled out just yet, indications are that they will range in price from $300,000 to $750,000.

The additional living spaces should be a boost to the self-proclaimed “Citrus Capital of the World.” Santa’s population has grown steadily in the past two decades and now sits above 30,000 residents. Though it’s a smaller city, it’s located right next to the Santa Clara River, as well as California State Route 126, making it convenient to get into and out of. Santa Paula is also about 20 miles inland from Oxnard and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

No timeline has been disclosed on Harvest at Limoneira’s construction at this time.
