Earlier this year, many residents living in the Mid-City neighborhood of Los Angeles were upset when three houses (and even some bushes) at the corner of Hi Point and Saturn streets were unexpectedly painted a bright Pepto Bismol pink. It was discovered shortly afterward that the paint job was part of an art installation designed by The Mural Agency. The company was hired by the Culver City-based architecture firm M-Rad as a stunt to draw eyeballs to the block.

Those residents should feel relieved now that the formerly pink houses have been painted white. Per Curbed LA, although reps of the architecture firm claimed the vibrant color was meant to deter potential squatters while the developer received demolition permits, city records show that these permits are still in the process of getting approved.

The trio of houses is currently fenced off, but the structures will soon be demolished to clear the path for M-Rad’s planned four-story apartment complex. According to documents submitted to the LA’s Department of City Planning, the honeycomb-style residential project will include a mixture of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units (four of which will be for very low-income residents) and underground parking. Features include community gardens, tapered balconies, and a shared gym.
