Money.com has ranked the best places to live since 1987 and this year’s list features one notable Los Angeles County city, Monterey Park.

According to the publication, this year’s list was a bit different as it kept its search narrowed to communities between 10,000 and 100,000 residents. The reason being that urban population shifts grant larger cities a better chance to score well in the study.

Fishers, Indiana topped the entire list but Monterey Park led the way for California all the way up at No. 3. The city sits seven miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, between the U.S. 710 and 10 interstate highways and California State Highway 60, with a population just over 62,000. According to Money, the median home price there is around $533,000.

Indeed, Monterey Park’s enviable location makes it relatively easy to commute throughout the relatively pricey L.A. area. But this small city of just eight square miles also offers plenty of recreational opportunities within its borders, especially for families who want to unwind after work and school. Residents enjoy a weekly farmers market, more than a dozen parks, and the Barnes Park Amphitheater, which hosts a number of free concerts and an annual Fourth of July fireworks and live entertainment event.

Money also extended their rankings to the top 100 places to live, which included just two more California locations. Among those listed in this year’s rankings are No. 18 Santa Monica and No. 60 Los Alamitos. Based on population numbers, Santa Monica just made the cut (the city’s at over 92,000 residents according to estimates). However, the high number shouldn’t take away from its achievement as a great place to live.
