A massive residential undertaking at the Huntington metro station has initial backing from Fairfax County, Washington Business Journal reported. The plan, which was proposed two years ago, will develop the area of the Huntington Club, which is currently made up of 364 garden and townhome units spread across 10 buildings.

Arlington-Based IDI Group will be the master developer on the project, according to the report. The plan IDI proposed would include 500 apartments, 1,000 condos, 65 townhomes, approximately 450,000 square feet of office space, 18,000 square feet of retail space, and a 120,000-square-foot hotel. The staff amendment, which was issued this week, has slightly different numbers. According to Washington Business Journal, that proposal calls for up to 2,187 apartments and condos, 70 townhomes, 586,000 square feet of office space, and 19,000 square feet of retail space.

IDI is not the only group that has or is currently developing the area. The 360-unit The Parker on Huntington Avenue and the 260-unit The Shelby are luxury apartment developments around the Huntington metro station. South Alex by Combined Properties is planning 400 apartments, 41 townhomes, and a specialty grocery store, according to the report.

According to Washington Business Journal, IDI plans to submit a rezoning application for the Huntington Club around December. A public hearing on the amendment is scheduled for Dec. 7.
