The Neighborhood Opportunity Fund, a fund created by downtown developer fees, is taking applications for a second round of grants, according to DNAinfo. The fund will give out a $2.5 million in grants for businesses and projects on the city’s Southwest and West sides.

"By linking growth downtown directly to growth in our neighborhoods we can create jobs and new community amenities and ensure the entire city of Chicago thrives for generations to come,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, according to the report.

The first round of grants was awarded in June. This round of grants will focus on supporting development in low-to-moderate income areas in the cities Southwest and West sides. Project like grocery stores and cultural institutions will take priority, according to the report.

The grants are expected to help entrepreneurs cover up to 65 percent of their project costs, according to the report.
