Developers have proposed a high-rise tower featuring both offices and residences in Downtown Oakland. If constructed, the tower would become the tallest building in the East Bay.

The 34-story project, located at 1261 Harrison St. near 13th Street, would have 120,000 square feet of office space, 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and 185 residential units. The property would create jobs for more than 400 office employees and nearly 100 retail workers.

The project’s developer, San Jose-based Pinnacle RED, believes the mixed-use property would be a transformative addition to the fast-changing Downtown region. Demand for more office space in the neighborhood is high as the vacancy rate of office space is currently at a low, according to a Mercury News report.

As another plus, the development would be located near the 12th Street and Broadway BART station. Developers believe they can tap into the Bay Area’s urgent need for more office and residential buildings located near mass transit. The transit-oriented development could also bring economic strength to nearby Chinatown and other businesses.
