A new, 17-story hotel has received a permit to begin foundation construction at 100-110 W. Huron St. in River North, according to Curbed Chicago. The hotel is being developed by Akara Partners and designed by NORR Architects.

The development, located near quite a few competitors, will feature 206 guest rooms, retail space, and a restaurant, though it will not include any parking spaces.

The River North hotel was originally slated to have 185 guest rooms, according to the report. The City of Chicago had capped the number of rooms at 200, but the developer sought and received permission to increase that number to 206. The final number of guest rooms will be reflected on the project’s forthcoming full build-out permit.

The new development was not always going to be a hotel. Initially, Akara Partners planned to bring a condo building to the Huron Street site.
